Syed Ali Shah Geelani- a staunch Kashmir’s separatist leader- was a prominent personality throughout the history of the Kashmir issue, who has proved himself the very symbol of resistance via his prudent political ideas, ensuring independence in true letter and spirit. Moreover, his intellectual, behavioural, and idiosyncratic efforts had instilled his political ideas into Kashmir’s youth- the actual fate drivers of the Kashmir cause. As it is aptly said, “The more the passionate youth is, the more the chances of fair independence would be.” Therefore, the leader left no stone unturned in developing such mindsets that were to turn his political ideas into reality in the coming years. Taking into account his early life and educational background, he played the role of the reformist in the disputed territory by spearheading the political movement and also raised the voice for the plight of Kashmir’s people with his far-sighted political ideas: the right to self-determination, non-amalgamation, the absolute autonomy, and completely merge into Pakistan- a Muslim majority state. Moreover, his continuous literary struggle, statesman attitude, moderate behaviour, and Muslim nationalist mindset had played a significant role in inciting his political ideas in the hearts and minds of Kashmir’s youth. So, it is opined the religio-political figure played the exact role of rejuvenator as the former ones in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Thus, the seeds of independence sowed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani would become the cornerstone for the young fighters seeking freedom of their rights and land.

He was one of the few men of letters in Kashmir fighting for the freedom of Muslims. Therefore, he had an alternative political plan, like an autonomous state, for the discriminated Kashmir’s people. It has been evident from his retaliation to Musharraf’s Chenab Plan- the formula seeking to divide Kashmir along the river Chenab that was to compromise the sovereign right of Kashmir’s Muslims.
Despite many restrictions and hardships- Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s conscious efforts to soak his political ideas in the hearts and minds of the Kashmir’s youth was one the most integral steps throughout the history of the disputed land issue. First, his writing Wular Kinaray performed the role of memorizing the grievances and past atrocities of the innocent people of Kashmir’s youth. In this way, the young fighters never stopped fighting against discrimination even when their leader was imprisoned for many years. Second, his personality traits were the mirror image of those traits of the statesman. The lion of Kashmir influenced Kashmir’s youth so they started to adopt his attributes: fearlessness, bravery, and resistance. He contributed to the advancement of his political ideas. Third, his determination and hard-core decisions against the disparities, like the incarceration of his allies in the elections, flattered the young masses. After his political speeches, they started the armed struggle for their rights by following in his footsteps. Lastly, the ingrained Muslim nationalism- forever loyalty to Pakistan- in the leader, explicitly shown by the Urdu Language protest in the elections of 1972, spurred the nationalist sentiments of Kashmir’s youth. It was also a positive effort to teach his political ideas to the youth.
In a powerful diagnosis, the leader was a Muslim nationalist, a religious figure, and a political leader with fearless political ambitions in the case of the Kashmir issue. His aspirations related to freedom, equal rights advocacy, and sovereignty to the Kashmir people had changed the landscape of the issue.
