In this question examiner has asked to describe the Big Bang Theory of origin of Universe. Therefore, you have to give brief introduction of the theory and then explain its different phases.
Introduction
The Big Bang Theory is the best-supported theory regarding the origin of the universe. First suggested by George Lemaitre in 1020s, the theory states that the universe was formed as a result of an expansion around 13.7 billion years ago.
Explanation of the Theory
The universe begun with a point named singularity, which was smaller and denser than anything that can be imagined. It suddenly started expanding at an incredibly fast speed. It then cooled down in a period known as inflation. At the end of the inflationary period there were elementary particles, light and energy. Later, some of the particles came together and formed protons and neutrons. The protons and neutrons were able to combine to form the nuclei of hydrogen and helium atoms. Around 200 million years later, the temperature dropped and the gravitational attraction pulled the atoms together into clumps, which was the beginning of the galaxies. Around 800 billion years later, the solar system was formed in the similar way.
Evidence of the Big Bang
The theory received a boost with Hubble’s observation that the galaxies are moving further apart. Hubble’s telescope helped proving that the universe was expanding and that it was smaller in the past. It observed the phenomenon of Red Shift, which explains that red light is emitted when a light emitting body moves away from the observer. Another piece of evidence is the discovery of cosmic microwave radiations in 1960s. According to Penzias and Wilson, these radiations are received from everywhere in the sky and are thought to be the heat leftover from the explosion.
