In history, we have seen many leaders who contributed to the greater causes; we have also seen such heroes who sacrificed their lives for the well-being of the people, and today I’m going to tell you some inspiring facts about such a man who is the fighter of rights for Negros and that great leader is no one else but ”Nelson Mandela.”
Mandela, a man in history, who does not only work to uplift the lives and status of Negroes but also stand against the systems of institutionalized racial segregation. There are many facts that you should be aware of how he worked for the betterment of the lives of people and what was his personal life.
A Holiday Was Associated with Mandela
In November 2009, the United Nations General Assembly declared 18 July as the “Mandela Day” to give credit to Mandela’s work to pay a pride to his contribution to freedom.
Record Breaker Election of 1994
Mandela who participated in the presidential election of 1994 brooked many records in the history of South Africa. Through his massive won in the election, he becomes the first black president, democratically elected president, and he was the oldest person who was elected for the presidential duty. His inauguration ceremony had the largest number of peoples since the 1963’s funeral of the U.S. president John F. Kennedy.
Real Name of Mandela
Most of us don’t know about the original name of Nelson. Actually, Nelson was not his original name. His real name was “Rolihlahla”, which was unable to be pronounced by his teachers. So one of his teachers started calling him “Nelson”, which eventually becomes his name instead of Rolihlahla.
Name given to him by his Followers
In South Africa, Nelson Mandela was also famous with the names of “mkhulu”, which means grandfather, or “Madiba”, which were given to him by his followers.
Mandela’s Recognitions
For his great, endless work, he, in his life, received many awards that numbered 695 in total along with 1993’s Nobel Peace Prize. Many universities, schools, institutions, and foundations named after him. Many statues, sculptures, and different pieces of art have been made for him.
World history is full of such influential, intellect, hardworking, and sacrificing leaders who contributed to greater causes and lives in history until the end.
