Amazing Facts About The Dead Sea?

The Dead Sea gets its mysterious name from the bewildering phenomenon it exhibits. So, here are some amazing facts about the Dead Sea everyone wants to know

The Dead Sea, not a sea but a landlocked salt lake, is located between Jordan and Israel, with the northern half of its western shore lying in Palestine. Hence, the lake is equally significant for Israeli Jews, Palestinian Muslims, and Jordanian Christians.

With an elevation of 423 meters below sea level, the Dead Sea is considered the lowest land-based point on the earth. Thus, from the surface of the lake, a person can only move up. Since it is the lowest dry point, only the most filtered ultraviolet radiations from the sun reach here.

Moving further, Why the Dead is called “Dead” is a question asked by every person who hears its name for the first time. Interestingly, it is declared so because the lake is completely devoid of all the life forms, whether plants or living creatures. Bacteria is the only living entity that can survive here. The extremely high salinity of the lake water, ten times saltier than the ocean, makes it a death trap for life.

Due to hypersalinity, the water in the sea is very concentrated. However, the human body, by comparison, is not as dense as salted water. Therefore, the less dense water of the sea keeps the more dense bathers’ bodies buoyant, and they, regardless of their body weight, don’t sink into it.

Although the Dead Sea supports no life, it does miracles for human life. For instance, the mud in the sea is supposed to make the skin smoother and acne-free. Moreover, the minerals, like magnesium, can treat muscle aches, arthritis, and psoriasis.

Hence, the Dead Sea is not as deadly as it is named; however, thousands of visitors around the world visit it to experience how it feels to float on the therapeutic water of The Dead Sea.
