Palestine, a country that gained independence after a long and challenging journey, has emerged as the focal point of a persistent quest because of the sacred city of Jerusalem, which is home to three of the major global religions. The Israel-Palestine conflict, marked by wars and tensions, has intensified the struggle for self-determination and control over Jerusalem. However, the global Muslim community, a diverse array of nations and people, plays a pivotal role in Palestine’s future due to shared history, religion, and a commitment to justice. They oppose illegal Jewish settlements and endorse East Jerusalem as Palestine’s capital. Meanwhile, Israel maintains dominion, seeking to expand its influence in the region. Moreover, the Muslim Ummah offers unwavering support to Palestine with financial and military aid, advocating for Palestinian rights, condemning Israeli settlements, and raising a voice for global recognition of Jerusalem as Palestine’s capital. Nevertheless, amid the Palestine-Israel conflict, future outcomes for Palestinian territory vary. On one side, Gaza’s administration could transfer to the Palestinian Authority, Palestinian civilians, or Arab states following public preferences. On the flip side, control could go to Israel or the UN, indirectly granting control to Israel. Thus, the Palestinian future carries immense historical and geopolitical importance, as the Muslim Ummah plays a pivotal role in shaping it.

Before discussing the current situation of the Palestine issue, it is important to understand the strategic significance of the land. Indeed, Palestine bears immense geopolitical significance as a historical hub of trade and cultural exchange at the crossroads of Asia, Africa, and Europe. However, its true global importance is cited by Jerusalem, a holy city sacred to Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. For Jews, Jerusalem is their faith’s historical and spiritual core, housing the Western Wall and the ancient Temple Mount. However, Muslims consider Al-Aqsa Mosque one of their holiest sites and a place of profound devotion. And for Christians, Jerusalem regards the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, marking the site of Jesus’ crucifixion. So, this convergence of major religious places in Jerusalem has attracted international attention and provoked diplomatic efforts.

Analyzing the current situation in Palestine issue, it is characterized by an enduring and deeply rooted conflict with Israel. On October 7, 2023, Hamas, a Palestinian Islamist militant group in the Gaza Strip, launched coordinated attacks from Gaza into Israeli border areas on a Jewish holiday, which provoked Israel to counter-attack by heavily bombarding Palestine, especially in the Gaza Strip. As a result, many people died in both Israel and Palestine. The saddening fact is that decades of tensions, wars, and negotiations have failed to bring a lasting resolution to this complex issue. However, international efforts to mediate and find a two-state solution continue, but the path to peace remains challenging, making the region’s future uncertain for all.

Moving ahead towards the Muslim Ummah stance regarding the Palestine issue, the global Muslim community supports Palestine due to their shared history, religion, and cultural norms. Israel’s expansion into Palestinian territories, including illegal Jewish settlements, persists despite Arab nations’ efforts. These settlements pose a major obstacle to peace, occupying Palestinian lands and enhancing the quest for a two-state solution. Additionally, the Ummah strongly advocates for East Jerusalem’s recognition as the capital of Palestine, emphasizing its historical and religious significance to Muslims. This issue remains at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the Ummah’s support for Palestinian rights underscores its importance and the pursuit of a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict. This scenario thus demonstrates maintaining peace in this region is like a wild goose chase.

However, Israel’s stance in the conflict with Palestine revolves around asserting control over Jerusalem due to its sanctity in Judaism. This religious and historical significance is integral to Israel’s identity and a significant point of contention. Furthermore, Israel seeks regional power for geopolitical and security reasons, expanding its territory by occupying Palestinian lands and allowing Jewish settlements in Jerusalem. International perspectives on these policies vary; some view them as essential for Israeli security and regional equilibrium.  Nevertheless, Israel’s underlying objective is to assert control over Jerusalem and establish dominance over the local Muslim population, creating an impediment to achieving peace in the region.

Discussing the efforts done by Muslims during the conflict, the Muslim Ummah takes a multifaceted approach to support the establishment of a separate and independent Palestinian homeland. Their efforts encompass financial and military assistance and humanitarian aid to Palestinian refugees in various Arab nations and Palestine itself. While neighbouring Arab countries have engaged in confrontations challenging Israel’s presence, the Ummah predominantly advocates for peaceful solutions. They collectively denounce Israeli settlements on Palestinian soil, demand international recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, and actively pursue a two-state solution ensuring equal opportunities for Palestinians. Rejecting Israeli territorial control, they consistently call upon major global powers to aid in the creation of an independent Palestinian state, emphasizing their commitment to justice and a peaceful resolution.

Amid the current situation in the Palestinian territory, divided between Gaza, ruled by HAMAS and the West Bank governed by the Fatah party, a favourable future scenario envisions the Palestinian Authority taking control of Gaza’s administration. This transition could promote unity and cooperation among Palestinian factions, contributing to regional stability. It might also create a more favourable environment for diplomatic negotiations with Israel, moving closer to a two-state solution and enduring peace. Nevertheless, this prospect faces significant challenges, given the complex dynamics and Israel’s influence in the West Bank. Still it remains a hopeful possibility, offering benefits if equal opportunities and cooperation are achieved.

Another favourable scenario for ensuring the security and prosperity of Palestinian territory and its citizens involves establishing a Palestinian civilian administration comprising representatives from diverse Palestinian societies, including local mayors. This civilian administration could pave the way for more efficient governance, enhanced public services, and localized decision-making, thus fostering a self-sufficient and prosperous Palestinian state. Nevertheless, this path to progress is surrounded by obstacles, such as addressing deeply rooted political, economic, and security issues. Despite the challenges, it is a promising possibility for Palestinians to gain increased self-determination and autonomy within their territory, ultimately contributing to a more stable and prosperous future.

Furthermore, owing to the ongoing war situation, another possibility is that Arab states are taking the lead in the Gaza Strip, together with the Palestinian Authority. This cooperative effort signifies the united support of neighbouring Arab nations in the Palestinians’ pursuit of self-determination and statehood, whether through independent governance or as per their preferences. This arrangement promises stability, international recognition, and a unified regional approach to address the persistent Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Although this scenario has challenges, cooperative measures can establish a better future for independent Palestine.

Conversely, within the spectrum of future possibilities for Palestine, there exists an unfavourable scenario where Israel could assume control over Palestinian territories. Israel, which held control over Palestine until 2005, could potentially regain authority due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The high casualties, aid blockades, and Jerusalem’s control being handed to Israel exacerbate the region’s political, economic, and social distress. This situation raises concerns about a potential large-scale conflict or even a third world war. To mitigate these adverse effects, diplomatic solutions, cooperation, and peaceful negotiations are imperative, as failing to do so could further intensify the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with far-reaching consequences.

Lastly, the potential involvement of international organizations introduces an additional scenario for Palestine’s future, wherein the UN-led administration takes charge. While the United Nations’ participation could provide global oversight and coordination, it may fall short of addressing the intricate dynamics of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict comprehensively. This arrangement could lead to an extended transitional phase, potentially delaying the realization of full Palestinian statehood and self-determination. Furthermore, concerns arise regarding the effectiveness and political impartiality of the UN-led administration. Considering the aspirations of the Palestinian people and the pressing need to resolve long-standing issues, careful measures are vital to prevent potential conflict or further complexities in the pursuit of a stable and independent Palestinian state.

Critically evaluating the future of Palestine and its relationship with the Muslim Ummah, the scenario presents a multifaceted dynamic. The Ummah’s unwavering support for Palestinian rights, opposition to illegal settlements, and advocacy for East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital highlight a shared commitment to justice and peace, although the challenges persist. The ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, historical complexities, and international geopolitical factors continue to shape this relationship. Achieving a resolution that satisfies both the Palestinian desire for statehood and Israel’s security concerns remains elusive. To move towards a more peaceful future, cooperative efforts are crucial, necessitating actions from both Israel and Palestine to de-escalate the current conflicts and cultivate stability in the region.

To conclude, the future of Palestine presents various possibilities about the current scenario of the multifaceted Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Palestine, with the help of Muslim Ummah, tries to secure its territory and the holy city of Jerusalem, which Israel occupies. The Ummah’s unwavering support for Palestinian rights and justice, along with its stance against illegal settlements and advocacy for East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital, reflects a shared commitment to a peaceful resolution. And achieving a comprehensive resolution that accommodates both Palestinian aspirations for statehood and Israel’s security concerns remains elusive. Thus, the roadmap necessitates cooperative efforts from all stakeholders, fostering diplomacy, dialogue, and understanding to pave the way for a more stable and peaceful future in the region.
