Introduction
The Gaza conflict has adversely affected regional peace. And it has been amplified due to the humanitarian crisis and infrastructure breakdown in Palestine by Israeli forces. Moreover, neither party has agreed to any mediation point, such as unwillingness to agree on two-state solutions. Also, it has increased the war situation in the region in deterrence phenomenon, such as attacks by Israel on opponent countries and attacks by Iran and its proxies to decelerate Israel’s progression in Gaza and the West Bank. Also, to promote peace, both parties must negotiate on the terms of ending the war in Gaza.
A bird’s eye view of the Gaza conflict
Gaza crisis was aroused in October 2023, and it has arisen another Iran-based organization to stop Israel from capturing the whole region of Palestine. Both parties have attacked each other, but Israel’s inhumane acts are beyond the limits. Israel has violated the stages of genocidal conventions by attacking hospitals, refugee centres and civil resident areas in Gaza. Moreover, Israel has stopped refugee aid to Gaza to attack the morale of Gaza’s people.
How will the Gaza conflict affect prospects for peace in the region in the next five years?
In the next five years, if the parties are unable to stop the war, there will be the following implications for regional peace.
- Unwillingness to accept a two-state solution by both disputes
Both Parties are unwilling to agree to a two-state Nation as disclosed in the Oslo Accords. In the accord, both Israel and Palestine had come to the mediating point. But after that, Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin of Israel was assassinated, and the extremist party got a government in Israel. Later, none of the parties agreed to a mediation point as both claimed the land as per attachments of religious sentiments of Muslims and Jews.
- Increase in Refugee crisis in the region
Gaza conflicts have led to an increase in IDPs, where people have migrated to nearby countries. Moreover, it has burdened the economies of nearby Arab states. Also, Refugees have started riots in Jordan after the first intifada. The riots had made the government of the country expel them for sustainable regional peace. There are chances of the creation of such events in the next five years in the region
- Attack on Iran by Israel to maintain its influence in the region
The ongoing conflict would lead to a military strike by Israel on Iran, being against Israel. Also, Iran has been threatening Israel through direct and indirect attacks on Israel, which has aroused rage in Israel. To influence the region, Israel would attack Iran as it declared when Iran launched a recent activity of Iran, launching an air strike on Israel. Additionally, by threatening or attacking Iran, Israel would harm the Iranian capacity to cope with the attack. It would also be able to indulge in a never-ending Tom and Jerry fight in the region.
- Attack by Iranian Proxies on Israel hampering regional peace
The current conflicts in Gaza, if continued, would bring reciprocal attacks on Gaza by Iranian Proxies, Hezbollah and Houthis. As they have Iranian support and have the same motto, supporting Gaza due to religious attachment to Muslim integrity, they would continue to attack Israel as they are attacking in the current situation. Similarly, the attacks by both parties will continue, resulting in two-way attacks, which would engage the world in a third world war.
- Another Oil embargo by Arab Countries due to lasting Gaza conflict
If the conflict continues, Arab states will show their exhaustion from the conflict. And to curb the situation, like previously, Arabs would apply the Oil Embargo in the world, leading towards another energy crisis in the world. The oil embargo would affect not only Western economies but also developing and under-developing economies of the world. As a result, the industry of most countries would suffer.
Suggestion to stop the adverse situation in Gaza
There are some possible solutions to stop the possible adverse situation.
- To move towards reproached for crisis resolution
First, both parties must think about rapprochement, as the conflict is adversely affecting the region. So, both parties must consider negotiations like the Oslo Accord. And both parties must not interpret each other’s affairs after negotiation. Also, Arab countries and the West must consider pressuring both parties to stop the violation of humanitarian moralities and move towards the resolution of the solution.
- To pressurise both parties through international powers to ceasefire the war
Both parties involved in the Gaza conflict must be pressurised by the international community to cease fire. This would bring another milestone to the UN peacekeeping agenda. Moreover, by pressurising, the soft image of superpowers would be intensified, leading towards regional peace in the Middle East. Also, humanitarian crises would be curbed through a major warning for such peace-tearing agents.
Critical Analysis
A bird’s eye view of the current situation of the Gaza conflict predicts that if the crisis is not resolved, it will hamper the integrity of neighbouring nations and the peace in the region. As Iran and its proxies are supporting Palestinians and the West is supporting Israel, their proxies and support would create another war in the world. This would create an economic downfall to curb the damage, like an embargo on oil prices, as happened previously.
Conclusion
In a nutshell, the ongoing Gaza crisis has created a humanitarian crisis in the world, increased the refugee crisis, and hampered regional peace. Also, if the situation were not curbed, there would be an increase in fights and wars among regional countries. Moreover, there is another oil crisis in the world. Therefore, to resolve the conflict, both parties must consider negotiation and reach a mediating point to create a peaceful environment in the region.
