ChatGPT And CSS And PMS Aspirants’ Future

ChatGPT And CSS And PMS Aspirants’ Future by Dr Aimeen

ChatGPT And Aspirants’ Future | Daily Writeup | Opinions

Introduction

Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer a technology of the future in today’s world, where technology is progressing rapidly. It is already a part of human’s everyday lives. From Siri and Alexa to self-driving cars, AI is worldwide. However, the most recent development prompting people to rethink their dependence on technology is the quick uptake of OpenAI’s generative AI tool, ChatGPT. While ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence models can completely change how humans engage with technology, they could also have unanticipated adverse effects on critical thinking and education. Conversely, critical thinking is analyzing and evaluating information to form an opinion or decide. Nevertheless, essential writing skills are necessary for the CSS and PMS examinations. However, nowadays, too many CSS and PMS aspirants blow their chance to become a CSP due to the lack of critical writing skills because of the over-reliance on ChatGPT.

Importance of critical thinking for CSS and PMS aspirants

Further, it is essential to discuss the importance of critical thinking for CSS and PMS aspirants. CSS and PMS exams are based on writing skills, especially critical writing skills, accompanied by knowledge. These skills can be acquired and improved over time with practice. However, it is crucial to employ essential abilities to think in the world when information is so quickly accessible to assess the reliability of the information people receive. By challenging what one reads, one might learn more about the topic and even make discoveries. Additionally, critical thinking enables aspirants to look at the data from various angles, which may help them comprehend any underlying assumptions or biases that could be present.

Further, as AI becomes popular, critical thinking will become increasingly important. AI is intended to use algorithms to reach choices based on data and patterns. These algorithms, however, can be influenced by the presumptions and prejudices of their designers, and they are only as good as the data they are trained on. Therefore, it will be crucial to use critical thinking abilities to assess ChatGPT judgements and ensure they are consistent with one’s beliefs and objectives. Furthermore, using critical thinking will be essential to solving difficult and complex questions that ChatGPT might not be able to manage alone or the questions in the examination hall. With the help of critical thinking abilities and self-practicing, CSS and PMS aspirants can perform better in the examination hall.

ChatGPT: a friend or a foe of CSS and PMS students?

AI has penetrated people’s daily lives, such as smartphones, personalized healthcare, security systems, self-service stores, and online shopping. One notable AI achievement was when AlphaGo, a computer program, defeated the World Go Champion, Mr. Lee Sedol, in 2016. Public attention was further drawn in 2017 when a new version of AlphaGo beat Ke Jie, the world’s No.1 ranking Go player. AI can manage high levels of complexity. Undoubtedly, AI and ChatGPT are helpful in many fields of life, but in the case of students, they play the role of a foe, especially for the students of CSS and PMS in Pakistan and generally for all students worldwide because it’s entirely dependent on what’s been written already. It is utterly incapable of both original thinking and novel or nuanced interpretation. In short, while writing assignments and essays, ChatGPT may be helpful to students and CSS aspirants, but it ruins their thinking ability slowly and gradually; therefore, it proves a curse for CSS and PMS aspirants, especially all academic students. For instanceThe New York City Department of Education has banned ChatGPT on all school devices and networks. Manyscholars argue that heavy reliance on AI for information and decision-making may lead to declining CSS and PMS students’ critical thinking. They worry that AI algorithms may reinforce biases, limit exposure to diverse viewpoints, and hinder the analytical reasoning of these students. Undoubtedly, these concerns are pretty valid.

Additionally, ChatGPT can generate information that sounds nice but is flat-out incorrect, which is one of its risks. The operator still has to be able to evaluate the data that AI generates and assess its correctness. Nevertheless, studies also suggest that excessive reliance on AI may lead to cognitive complacency and a decrease in CSS and PMS students’ propensity to independently challenge information. Consequently, they are unable to detect the mistakes generated by AI. According to new research from the University of California, those relying extensively on ChatGPT suggestions have worse critical thinking skills than students conducting independent analysis. Thereforethe ease and convenience of generating text with the help of ChatGPT discourage CSS and PMS students from developing their ideas and conducting independent research, leading to a lack of creativity and originality in their writing.

Furthermore, the latter viewpoint has been given some thought by academia, which is worried about ChatGPT content being utilized in student assignments in developed cultures with strong educational institutions. ChatGPT and AI can negatively influence academic systems that are already weak, like Pakistan’s. Assessment, administration, and development of curricula and pedagogy occur in silos. Similarly, rote learning, where there is no room for critical thought, has resulted in the amassing of knowledge that is out of step with real-world applications. However, practical experience, including social norms and behaviours that support curriculum and pedagogy, is essential for effective learning for the students. A few weeks ago, bioRxiv published a study revealing how academics confused 32% of the ChatGPT-generated abstracts with real ones and 14% of original abstracts with AI-generated ones. Earlier this year, New York, Whales, and Australia City schools banned ChatGPT, fearing AI-assisted plagiarism. However, the fear of artificial intelligence threatening critical thinking isn’t new. Stephen Hawking once famously said, “The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race.” Hence, it is proved that ChatGPT is a foe for CSS, PMS and all academic students.

Dependence on ChatGPT and becoming a CSP are the same as building a castle in the air

In the science fiction film “Wall-E,” people lead leisurely lives while depending on cutting-edge AI to complete tasks. They thus grow psychologically and physically complacent and lose touch with critical thinking abilities. The same scenario applies to the CSS and PMS aspirants, who are over-reliant on ChatGPT. Therefore, as the CSS and PMS aspirants delegate more tasks to these intelligent machines, a critical question arises: are they drifting towards a “Wall-E”-like future, where their dependency on AI erodes their essential skills of thinking and future?

The answer is yes. Nevertheless, the over-dependency on ChatGPT and other AI tools destroys the critical thinking abilities of CSS and PMS aspirants. They are even unable to understand the proper idea of the question. Consequently, they are unable to write according to the examiner’s demand. According to the examiner report of CSS CE-2022, most candidates failed due to presenting a crammed write-up without realizing the topic’s delicacy, twist, and emphasis. A stock of similar material, quotes, and examples reflect consulting readily available sources, lacking original thinking, critical evaluation, and discursive strength of discussion, which were also among the top comments made by the examiners. Thus, the students won’t be able to succeed unless they stop relying on artificial intelligence like ChatGPT and start believing in themselves. Therefore, the key to success is they should believe in long-term progress over quick fixes to achieve their goals.

Conclusion

In conclusion, critical thinking is necessary for CSS and PMS aspirants to develop to succeed. As AI expands, it is essential to remember that critical thinking is a skill that machines cannot replicate. Undoubtedly, AI and ChatGPT-like inventions benefit many, but they are only tools that organize human experience through a particular, incredibly potent way of symbol manipulation; they are never instruments of reason that can resolve issues of human concern. However, there is concern among scholars that it can undermine the memory retention and critical thinking skills of CSS and PMS aspirants. However, CSS students should emphasize human intelligence development rather than depend on artificial intelligence tools.
