Answer to the Question

Introduction

Following the Battle of the Trench came the Battle of Khaybar, commanded by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Due to the Jews of Khaybar’s alliance with the Ghatfan tribe, the Muslims were forced to besiege their strongholds for fourteen days. The Muslims planned an attack using catapults when the siege failed. In the end, under the leadership of Ibn Abi al-Huqayq, the Jews made peace by deciding to leave Khaybar and give the Muslims all their property and riches. Khaybar’s resistance ended with this triumph, accomplished with Allah’s assistance.

An overview of the Battle of KhyberKhyber

The Jews of Khaybar, who had planned the attack on Medina during the Battle of the Trench, and the tribes of Najd, who had sided with the Quraysh, were among the opposing factions. However, the primary goal was to bring quiet, security, and harmony in and around Medina. The second reason, however, was the collaboration of Khaybar’s Jews, who planned the attack on Medina. Nevertheless, a more thorough analysis of the Khaybar Battle’s circumstances reveals that the Jewish presence in the Khaybar alliance, which assaulted Medina during the Battle, was eliminated. Moreover, it shatters the strongholds of the established Jewish community in Khaybar and strengthens Muslim authority over Medina while enhancing their self-confidence. Last but not least, reaping the benefits of Khaybar’s financial resources, especially its date palm fields.

Benefits acquired from the Battle of Khyber

Considering the historic Battle of Khaybar, the following are some of the most significant conclusions from the Battle that brought to light the need for sincerity in fighting for Allah’s cause to triumph. Finally, long-term conflicts with well-defended strongholds demand a clean heart, sincere loyalty to Allah, and much patience since victory is only possible with His blessing.

A- Economic benefits

  • The Muslims regained Fadak

During a time of war, the Prophet Muhammad held negotiations with the Jews of Fadak and Khaybar. Fearing they might suffer a similar fate, the people of Fadak volunteered to give up half of their riches for a peace deal after seeing the siege of Khaybar. After losing their only source of income, the Khaybar Jews requested to be allowed to stay and farm their land in return for half of the crops. Muhammad(PBUH)  agreed, seeing that the newly arriving Muslims lacked the agricultural knowledge of the Jews. By this agreement, the Jews were permitted to remain on their property, but Muhammad had the right to drive them out at any moment. Similar terms were granted to the Jews of Fadak. Allah says in the Quran And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls, but He knows it. And no grain is there within the darknesses of the earth and no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record. Muhammad acquired individual ownership of Fadak as no Muslim warriors participated in the Battle to divide the loot. Mohammed funded the marriages of poor young men and distributed his fortune to orphans.

  • In the form of agricultural resources

The Battle of Khaybar greatly enhanced the strategic and financial standing of the Muslims. Following their successive conquests of Khaybar’s forts, which began with Naim and ended with the fall of Qalaat Al-Zubayr, the Muslims seized possession of Khaybar’s precious agricultural resources, especially its date plantations, which were subsequently administered by Madina. Upon acknowledging their loss and sending Ibn Abi al-Huqayq to conduct negotiations, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) insisted that the Jews completely evacuate Khaybar and hand up all of their assets, including land and money, to the Muslims. The Muslims’ economic prosperity was guaranteed by this triumph, which also solidified their rule in the area. As Hazrat Aishah (R.A.) said, “We proclaimed, “Now we will eat our fill of dates,” when Khaibar was subdued. (Bukhari’s Sahih: 4242). Hazrat Ayesha and Hazrat Ibn Umar (R.A.) also stated, “We didn’t stop eating until we vanquished Khaybar.” (Bukhari’s Sahih: 4243)

B- Political benefits:

  • Arab tribes to make alliances and agreements with Muslims

However, the Khaibari people said, “We know more about it than you, and we are better farmers,” when they were surrounded by these circumstances and begged the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.) to hire them on the land with a half-share in the product. This agreement was approved by the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.) under the proviso that “If we wish to expel you, we will expel you.” (Sahih Bukhari, ref.2338). Undoubtedly, the Khaibar warfare increased the political status of the Muslims. Due to Muslims’ might and military strength, other Arab tribes formed alliances and dealt with Muslims.

  • Jewish tribes slowly lost their influence.

In terms of politics, the Battle of Khyber demonstrated Muslims as a defensive sheet and confirmed their military prowess and ability to withstand extended conflict against well-defended strongholds. In addition, the Battle of Khaybar demonstrated the Muslims’ prowess as soldiers and convinced several Arab tribes who had previously resisted the Muslims to make peace with them. Nevertheless, the war successfully dispersed Islam throughout Khaybar and put a stop to the Jewish community there, shattering the Jews’ foothold on the Arabian Peninsula. According to A-Tausi, The Khaybar Battle indicated that fighting for Allah’s cause requires devotion to succeed. Long-term conflicts with well-defended strongholds demand a clean heart, sincere loyalty to Allah, and great patience since victory is only possible with His approval. As a result, the results of the war diminished the power of Jews and non-Muslims in Madina.

C- Military benefits:

  • Islam got Khalid bin al-Walid and Amr bin Aas

Even though there were numerous victories from the Battle of Khyber, Khalid ibn al-Walid and Amr bin Aas stood out as the two most significant gifts to Islam. Soon after, Khalid grew close to the Holy Prophet(PBUH) and was granted command of Muslim soldiers in upcoming conflicts. Khalid Ibn Walid is one of the finest generals ever lived, sometimes known as the fabled “Sword of Allah.” During the time of the Holy Prophet Muhammad(PBUH), the Sword of Allah was a renowned comrade and took part in several battles with the Prophet. Besides these, Khalid ibn Walid was instrumental in the expansion of Muslim power over the Levante, Iraq, Syria, Iran, and even portions of Anatolia following the death of the Prophet. At the same time, Ammr alone began the conquest of Egypt in late 639 and led the Byzantines to a series of successes that culminated in Alexandria’s capitulation in 641 or 642. Of all the early Muslim conquests, it was the fastest. These two of the Prophet’s companions brought Islam’s triumph to its zenith.

  • The Battle of Khaybar showcased the Muslims as brave warriors.

The campaign effectively showcased the Muslim leaders’ military might and established their control. For instance, Abu Huraira stated that We witnessed (the Battle of) Khaibar. Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said about one of those who were with him and who claimed to be a Muslim. “This (man) is from the dwellers of the Hellfire.” When the Battle started, that fellow fought so violently and bravely that he received plenty of wounds. Some of the people were about to doubt (the Prophet’s statement), but the man, feeling the pain of his wounds, put his hand into his quiver and took out of it some arrows with which he slaughtered himself (i.e. committed suicide). Then, some men amongst the Muslims came hurriedly and said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Allah has made your statement true, and so and so has committed suicide. “The Prophet(PBUH) said, “O so-and-so! Get up and announce that none but a believer will enter Paradise and that Allah may support the religion with an unchaste (evil) wicked man. (Sahih al-Bukhari 4203). As a result, the greatest armouries in Arabia were filled with the most modern weaponry available at the time, including swords, spears, lances, maces, shields, armour, bows, and arrows.

Conclusion

Although the Muslims fought the Battle of Khyber for peace, stability, and Allah’s will, it also proved fruitful for the Muslims and gave them economic, political, and military strength. The Muslims fought the Battle of Khyber purely for peace, stability, and Allah’s will, but it also benefited them and provided them with military, political, and economic power. The Muslims’ financial position was strengthened when they took control of Khaybar’s agricultural resources. Politically speaking, the victory prompted other Arab tribes to join forces with the Muslims, thus aiding in the Islamic religion’s dissemination. Finally, but just as importantly, the campaign proved the Muslim leaders’ military prowess and cemented their power. Muslims, therefore, reached a new height of fame and power due to this fight.
