A laser is more than a toy. It gives the permanent and effective treatment of many diseases. It has enabled man to find the enemy in the darkness and, above all, the artificial sun is the tremendous result of laser technology.
Laser has proven much beneficial in our daily lives. Many people consider it a toy that is not known about its applications. It is not a toy, which almost all people, in their childhood, used to play with it. We, interestingly, used it to tease our fellows by directing laser light into their eyes. But, surprisingly, it could also be used to treat eye disorders. We were not known at that time about it. Laser, an acronym is ‘’Light Amplification by Emission of Stimulated radiations’’. It has many applications in different fields of life. Starting with the medical field, it has great significance in the diagnosis of cancer cells, not only diagnosis but also the killing the cancer cells. Cancer is formed in our body due to the irregular generation of cells and they form a tumor, a group of damaged cells. Due to it, their light absorption is different from the other cells. When the light is pointed at these cells, they absorbed much more light than the other cells of the body. It enables us to diagnose the place of cancer in the body. Here, the question arises of how it can treat cancer. The answer is that it is often used with medicines, which are activated by the laser light to kill cancer cells. Moreover, skin cancer can easily be treated through it.
There are several types of lasers having specific properties and are used for specific purposes. Carbon dioxide laser is used to dispatch the damaged layer of tissues without harming the other layers, beneath it. Another type of laser, as discussed earlier, the laser can also be useful to treat eye disorders, is the Argon laser. Its use can treat many ailments, especially retina-related. In addition to it, laser technology is also used to remove hairs permanently. It is done by the heating process. Laser light is monochromatic, intense, and high focused has high heat energy. When this heat falls on the roots of hairs, weakens them and prohibited the further growth of hairs. Furthermore, laser technology is being used in communication. Optical fiber is the medium of communication in the modern world. Optical fiber, which is smaller than hair size, uses laser light to transfer the information from one place to another. The light is used because of its capability to travel to a large distance without the consumption of much power. It is not the same for ordinary light, which consists of seven colors having different wavelengths, energies, and traveling capabilities. Therefore, laser light due to its unmatched properties has become unique from ordinary light.
An old method of data transfer was through the radio waves, having the capability of transformation of less data, in megabytes. But, the new technology, laser technology, has solved this problem because this technology can transfer the data in gigabytes. Similarly, laser technology has become imperative in the military. The military is using this technology in detecting various objects through the technology of LIDAR, in which laser light is used. Moreover, it is also used to focus on the target at night. In this way, laser light can be useful in the military to defend the country even at night. The most interesting use of laser technology in the military is the use of laser weapons for direct targeting the enemy. Hence, the use of laser light has become paramount in the military, which in turn are responsible for the defense of the country. As a result, it would not be wrong to say that laser technology is essential for the security of the country.
Over time, the laser has widened its uses in every section of life. Likewise, the laser has found its position in the nuclear field as well. Through laser technology, man has become able to produce artificial sun. The artificial sun is meant here to produce energy almost equal to the energy of the sun. In nuclear fusion, the two nuclei come close to each other through the energy of the laser. After it, they fuse. A large amount of energy is released during this process, equal to the energy of the core of the sun. Above all, through laser light, it was discovered that the speed of light is the same in all directions. Consequently, this reality cannot be denied that lasers have become a part and parcel of our life. The discovery of different types of lasers, their properties, and their applications have escalated it over all other technologies.
