Knowledge is a weapon that enables a man to distinguish between right and wrong and to achieve progress socially, morally, globally, and in economic terms. Knowledge is the only distinction between man and animals. It is the power of knowledge that man, today, spends such a comfortable and luxurious life. A possession that can never be stolen is knowledge. Hazrat Ali (R.A) said,
“Wealth is to be protected, whereas knowledge protects man.”
The credit of man’s growth and survival goes to knowledge only. Indeed, knowledge is a light that illuminates the entire world.
First of all, man is a superior creation in the world just because of knowledge. The power which discriminates between man and animals is knowledge. Physically, man is not as strong as animals. For instance, neither a man runs as fast as a tiger nor he sees as far as an eagle. His sense of smell is also inferior to that of dogs. Moreover, he could not carry a heavy load on his back like a beast of burden. Although he has no match in physical strength with animals, he forces them to be his servants owing to his knowledge.
Similarly, it is power of knowledge that enables a man to invent a number of things such as radio, telephone, internet, airplanes, and domestic and industrial appliances etc., for his comfort. Now, man could survive in the coldest and hottest regions of the world because he has made articles to fight natural calamities. Medical knowledge has brought such a revolutionary change that a number of deadly diseases, which were incurable in past, are curable now. Knowledge has played a pivotal role in the growth and survival of mankind.
Furthermore, nations having strong knowledge rules over the world like America and China. Both the countries promote education that helps them to accomplish a strong position across the globe. Now, China is the second largest economy of the world while America is a superpower.
On the other hand, knowledge has some disadvantages too when it is used negatively. For example, America’s bombardment on Hiroshima and Nagasaki caused a great havoc. A large number of people died due to atomic bombs, which are the creation of scientific knowledge. But it is the fault of man not knowledge.
In a nutshell, knowledge is the only tool that can bring a positive change in a society. It not only changes the fate of an individual but also the country. History reveals that Muslims ruled over the world when they were the torch-bearers of knowledge. Our beloved Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) said
“Seek knowledge though you may have to travel to China.”
Being Muslim and Pakistani, we must acquire that power to raise the image of our dear homeland- Pakistan- in the world.
