Answer to the question
Introduction
Muslims believe in the Hereafter, which is one of the basic Islamic fundamentals which restricts an individual from committing sins. According to Islamic teachings, the hereafter is the eternal and true stage of existence where an individual will reside after death. This belief not only flourishes human life on earth but also collects rewards for the hereafter, and this enhances a human morally, socially, and spiritually and leads him toward a happy and meaningful life, both in this world and the next. Here are the constraints which prevent humans from committing sins. First, fear of God and His divine punishments creates fear in human hearts and restricts them from wrongdoings. Moreover, thinking and realising about accountability, judgments, and being answerable to every action on the Day of Judgment encourages people to stay on the right path. Last but not least, reviving Islamic principles and teachings bars man, nurtures Taqwa, and fills the human heart with fear of God. These all doings stop man from engaging in sins and reward a man with the highest rank here and hereafter.
What are the Major Sins in the Present Era?
Believing in the Hereafter means having faith in Allah’s promises for the Day of Judgment that all humans will be resurrected and answerable for their doings; therefore, it is sure to happen. However, injustice, moral degradation, corruption, inequality, theft, adultery, neglect of Salah, and oppression are the major sins that individuals commit, and the most valid reason for sinning is that there are no immediate punishments, and living life on this delusion has taken over the world in its grip. And for those Allah says in Quran (Surah Ibrahim: “2), “And do not think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. This hadith narrates that one who prioritises worldly pleasures: fame, wealth, and power, always attracts wrongdoings. Hadith Tirmidi: “When a servant sins, a black spot appears on his heart”. In this hadith, it is verily stated that a man who continuously commits sins, his heart becomes hard, and no reminder of the hereafter can shatter his deeds.
Significance of Hereafter for the Muslim Ummah in the light of the Quran
The belief in the hereafter (AkhiHereaftere central pillar of the Islamic religion. It upholds humans socially, morally, and spiritually, contributing to a life rooted in faith, enriched with health, and sustained by Allah’s mercy and provisions. It is repeatedly emphasised that this worldly life is nothing but an illusion; rather, this world is a test to pass and gain entrance to paradise. Allah says in the Quran Surah Baqarah (2:4), “And they are certain of the Hereafter.” This verse clearly pronounces that a true believer not only acknowledges the Hereafter but practices it with their good deeds. Moreover, it is clearly mentioned in the Quran that the one who forgets life after here and only lives for the pleasure of life will be given the strict divine punishment, and no one will be left without harsh torment. Others in other Quranic words, such as Indeed, the Hereafter is better and more enduring. Surah Al-Aqsa 87.17 So it is obligatory upon a human to believe in the Hereafter.
Belief in the Hereafter Prevents Muslims from Committing Sins
- Fear of Divine Punishments
Fear of Allah and His divine punishment is the only Taqwa that a man Taqwaces in his life, and he lives according to the Quran and Sunnah. Fear of Allah not only prevents a man from wrongdoing but also shows a man’s submission toward divine power, ultimately refining the character and beauty of a man. As Allah has mentioned in the Quran, Surah Al-Hashr (59:18) says, “O you who believe! Fear Allah, and let every soul look to what it has sent forth for tomorrow, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what you do.” In this verse, Allah openly affirms a man who stands in awe of me, as I can see and observe all your doings. So, faith in Allah and knowing that Allah Almighty is aware of our actions. This phenomenon keeps the human spirit high and prohibits them from disobeying Allah.
- Idealising the Accountability and Judgment
Everything that a man does has equal repercussions in his life; if he does good, it will count in his rewards and vice versa. This thing hits a human hard, and he does not bother to do such wrongdoings. Standing before Allah and being accountable for what he has done in worldly life surely disturbs a man’s conscience and forbids him from sins. The verse of surah zulzilah stresses that no matter how small or big the sins are, they will be counted in Allah’s scale of justice; therefore, do things wisely, as Allah sees and knows everything in its entirety. Consequently, this collectively enhances individuals’ characters and raises an Islamic society.
- Promoting Patience and Perseverance
Indeed, Allah loves those who remain calm, composed and committed toward truth and righteousness no matter what the trials, hardships, difficulties, and setbacks are. Allah says in the Quran (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:13) “, Indeed, Allah is with the patient”. This affirms that Allah admires those who endure pain and hardship patiently. (Surah Az-Zumar 39: 10) “Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account”. In Surah Az-Zumar, Allah states that there is a reward for the patient. However, patience and perseverance are powerful tools that lead a human towards spiritual, personal, and societal growth. These traits create a strong sense of responsibility and resilience, and restrain from committing sins.
- Enhancing Morality and Sense of Responsibility
The fear of the hereafter compels a man to follow the given path and obey Allah’s commands. However, the Quran emphasises the basic foundations of an individual by enforcing moral and social ethics, which ultimately lead a man to a peaceful and purposeful life. As Quran assures, (Surah AAn-Nazi’at79:40-41) ” but as for he who feared the standing before his Lord and restrained the soul from (unlawful) inclination, Then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge” This verse shows that fear of Allah and doomsday bring a man towards positivity, self-control, and a deep sense of responsibility. This collectively makes a morally upright society free from sins.
- Recording of Deeds by Angels
Deeds are recorded by angels whom Allah appoints to oversee His humanity and their actions. Two angles, namely, Karamun Katibeen, one on the left side and the other on the right side, to maintain a book of good and bad deeds for the Day of Judgment as evidence of their doings, and they will be given rewards and punishment. Verse that states Surah Al-Infitar (82:10-1) “But verily, over you (are appointed angels) to protect you, honourable, recording; they know whatever you do.” This verse warns man that nothing is hidden from Allah and His angels, so what you do, keep in mind that Allah is verily watching and witnessing everything. This fear of Allah holds back humans from wrongdoings. The fear that Allah holds accountable every individual creates a sense of responsibility not to do such things that keep humans away from Allah’s embrace. Hence, it builds a moral, ethical, and spiritually enhanced society.
- Seeking Allah’s Rewards for the Hereafter
Muslims believe in the hereafter, which means seeking divine benefits that Allah has promised; it is the only faith upon which a human life exists. Whatever a man does, he does in the selfish desire of”divine gains. Sahi Muslim “Indeed, Allah does not look at your appearance or wealth, but He looks at ‘our hearts and your deeds.” This hadith describes that asking for divine benefits demands your pure intentions and obedience towards Allah. In other verse where Allah s”ys Surah Al-Isra (17:19) “Whoever desires the Hereafter and strives for it as he should, while he is a believer – it is they wh”se effort is appreciated.” Struggle for good deeds and earn your rewards. Therefore, Muslims should revise their acts to gather the highest rewards.
- Reviving Islam’s principles in the Present Era
In today’s modern world, rapid advancement and a materialistic lifestyle have absorbed Muslims, leaving little time for the practice of the Islamic teachings. Therefore, retrieving all the basics of Islamic teachings based on Quran and Sunnah to lead a life with dignity and faith, such as replacing materialism with divine reliance, ensuring justice, fairness, and law in society, being humble and merciful with others, living with sense of accountability that Allah is watching our actions, uphold modesty, and morality to spread morally developed community, and promoting brotherhood, unity, peace, and tolerance to bring back the Islamic culture. As Allah says in Surah Az-Zumar (39:55) Follow the best of what was revealed to you from your Lord before the punishment comes upon you suddenly while you do not perceive.” This verse indicates one should return to Allah before it is too late. So Muslims should follow all the defined dynamics to spend life with the will of Allah and can save themselves from hell on the dooms day.
Critical Analysis
It is the ultimate faith of Muslims to believe in the hereafter and prevent themselves from sins. Ironically, society lags in following the basic principles and teachings of Islam. Consequently, they suffer from miserable outcomes. Why Muslims failed to achieve Islamic life is because they are now tilted toward materialistic things and lack faith; moreover, they only know about the hereafter, but they do not practice it wisely. Peer influence of social media, digitalisation and globalisation has normalised the committing of sins. A report of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) 2023 found that 74% of the global youth are influenced by social media, promoting sins. Furthermore, the idea of secularism and westernisation among the young generation has further escalated this issue. Harved Culture Trend Report 2021 published that westernisation has reduced Islamic values in 65 countries. Belief in the hereafter only strengthens Muslims, also giving a righteous path to live life according to divine principles. Therefore, it is obligatory upon Muslims to have blind trust in the doomsday as it reflects the orders of Allah toward humanity.
Conclusion
The belief in the hereafter serves as a powerful tool that helps individuals attain the highest rank in the afterlife. His understanding stabilises man spiritually and socially; moreover, the concept of the hereafter helps Muslims to distinguish between right and wrong. To become the favourite creature of Allah, Muslims must reinforce all the positive attributes in their lives, get rewards from Allah, and remain abstinent from sins. SurPapers’ese measures elevate and enhance Muslims’ character and faith.
