Answer to the Question

Introduction

Although Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Ghazwat-e-Nabawi military expeditions are frequently seen as acts of warfare, they also demonstrate his brilliant leadership abilities in relation to his Gazwas. However, many scholars assert that they were primarily concerned with bringing stability, justice, and peace to the Muslim community in an antagonistic environment. Protecting the fledgling Muslim state from external threats was the main goal of these defence operations. Using the Prophet’s (PBUH) methods and strategies, this essay explores how Ghazwat promotes peace, emphasizing significant conflicts and their long-lasting impact on Muslim society.

An overview of the military strategist life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)

Ghazwat-e-Nabawi were fought by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) against the enemies of Islam. These wars enabled the Muslims to exist, practice their religion freely, and be protected from harm. Over a 23-year span, the Prophet Muhammad took part in 80 military trips, but less than 20 of them entailed fighting. During these campaigns, the Prophet (PBUH) prioritized justice, compassion, and reconciliation. Since each conflict was waged to create a lasting peace, guarantee religious freedom, and shield society from damage rather than for territory or dominance, these conflicts were crucial to the establishment of the Islamic state.

What are the brilliant qualities of Prophet (PBUH), as a military leader, with reference to his Gazwas?

  • Strong belief in Allah

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) believed in Allah wholeheartedly. As a result, the Prophet (PBUH) considered victory to be a blessing and a gift from Allah Almighty, and he did so in humility and modesty. Only faith, trust, and a sound sense of morals were responsible for this mindset. For instance, When the Prophet (PBUH) triumphantly arrived in Makkah following after overcoming it, he (PBUH) thanked Allah Almighty, His Creator, by lowering his head on his horse’s hump. As a result, this strong belief instilled confidence in him and his companions at that tense time. Thus, the gazwas of the Prophet (PBUH) proved his strong belief in Allah.

  • Exceptional Courage and bravery

The second most brilliant qualities of Prophet PBUH as a military leader were courage and bravery. During the most challenging moments of the war, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) exhibited extraordinary courage and bravery. For instance, Hazrat Ali (RA) claimed that the mujahid would find courage in the Prophet’s audacious and self-assured demeanour whenever the situation during combat took an unexpected turn. Additionally, during the height of combat, he would show incredible bravery and courage by approaching the enemy as closely as possible in an attempt to overwhelm him. At that point, all of his Mujahideen would become more courageous and want to emulate him. Above all, we need to remember that you were courageous. One more incident of the bravery and courage of the Prophet is the Fujjar incident. He only participated in the fight of Fujjᾱr prior to the Hijrᾱ. He was sixteen years old at the time. Ten tribes from the Qurᾱysh and a tribe from the southern desert engaged in combat after the latter broke the ban on fighting during the holy months. According to one account, he was a young guy at the time and would only throw arrows at his uncle Abu Talib. However, in accordance with another custom, he frequently participated in the conflict.

  • Exceptional military strategies

Furthermore, the holy Prophet is capable of using extraordinary warfare tactics. In addition to being a spiritual leader, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was also an accomplished military commander and strategist. He led the Muslim armies in many battles during his lifetime, such as the Battle of Badr, the Battle of Uhud, and the Battle of the Trench. For instance, Muslims took the treacherous mountain road during Gazwa Badr in order to get to Badr sooner than their adversaries and seize control of the important position and water resources. Moreover, he used strategies like surprise, careful terrain analysis, and strong motivational leadership to defeat larger enemies with a frequently smaller force; he successfully combined strategic planning with moral behaviour in combat.

  • Changing philosophy of war

The Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) doctrines of war transformed the concept of war. It was the first time you’ve established new war regulations in Arab history. In order to halt the infidel assault, he organized an army of a few warriors and allocated them to one another when he left Madῑnah and headed for Badar. He appointed the administrator at Madῑnah to fill in for him before he left for Badar. He designated a small group of people as an intelligence agency to collect information prior to your arrival at various locations when he departed with his army.

  • Outstanding achievements

He (PBUH) has achieved remarkable success in his life because of his fearlessness, bravery, and firm belief in Allah. He specifically illustrated the great retribution for giving. In all of Muhammad’s fights, there were roughly 1,000 casualties on all sides. Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, a modern Islamic scholar, claims that “eighty military expeditions took place during the 23-year period in which this revolution was completed.” He thus demonstrated himself to be the greatest general, administrator, judge, trainer, and advisor.

  • Merciful warfare rules

Moreover, his Loving and affectionate rules during warfare were another remarkable characteristic of his(PBUH) personality. He made tactical shifts on multiple occasions, occasionally switching to a defence strategy and other times dropping defence altogether. He crushed the enemy’s power by implementing an aggressive battle strategy with alignment. He also applied the preemptive strike theory by keeping an eye on enemy movements and ongoing military actions. For instance, the rules established in place for the Gazwa Badr captives and the general amnesty under Fateh Makah’s period were prime examples of his kind and sympathetic treatment of people during war.

  • Espionage and surveillance of the enemy

Last but not least, the Holy Prophet’s greatest strength in combat was his ability to anticipate the enemy’s next move. As a key player in strategic decision-making, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) employed espionage during times of war. For instance, in the “Raid on Nakhla,” Abdullah ibn Jahsh was sent to spy on the Quraysh tribe while posing as a merchant, giving the Muslims important information. This practice is acceptable under Islamic teachings as long as it is carried out morally and to protect the Muslim community.

Conclusion

In conclusion, despite being seen as military operations, the Ghazwat-e-Nabawi were mainly focused on creating peace, justice, and security for the Muslim community. By employing defensive tactics, engaging in diplomacy, practising forgiveness, and striving to end oppression, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) utilized these campaigns to safeguard the Muslims and promote lasting peace and stability. His strategies and guidance in these conflicts offer lasting teachings in managing disputes, emphasizing that the main aim of these missions was not violence but the creation of a fair and harmonious community.
