The cutting-edge technology of the AI tool, ChatGPT opens avenues of knowledge and information that reshape society and influence humans. Introduced in November 2022, ChatGPT has proved to be an unprecedented technological revolutionary tool that has the potential to perform tasks associated with human intelligence. Since its emergence, the AI tool has raised heated debates about its impacts on many facets of man’s life, not leaving human creativity untouched. Ostensibly, CSS aspirants have also embraced this tool to enhance their knowledge and acquire information, thereby developing multiple skills in less time. However, the drawbacks of ChatGPT outweigh its benefits regarding aspirants’ creativity and originality. It raises concerns regarding the capabilities and skills of aspirants who excessively rely on the Chatbot, which makes them over-dependent on it and stagnates their creative endeavours. For instance, when aspirants imitate the content from ChatGPT without pondering it, their writing skills stop developing, and they become passive learners. Moreover, ChatGPT does not usually provide relevant or impartial information, thus compromising the knowledge that aspirants obtain, which hampers their critical skills and creativity. However, to overcome these setbacks, the aspirants should use ChatGPT in a balanced manner and benefit from this technology. For that reason, using ChatGPT effectively allows aspirants to explore a more comprehensive range of creative ideas and opportunities in the shortest time.

What is ChatGPT?

Before discussing how ChatGPT destroys aspirants’ creativity, it is necessary to understand the meaning and workings of ChatGPT.Verily, ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is a revolutionary tool trained to provide human-quality responses, mesmerizing him with its natural language processing and understanding. It was created on November 30, 2022, by San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company ‘OpenAI’. Soon after its launch, it became the talk of the town, inspiring people with a large corpus of text data, and it can generate responses to questions, summarize long texts, write stories, and much more. According to an analysis by the Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS), “ChatGPT is the fastest-growing app of all time.” This estimates that ChatGPT had 100 million active users in January, only two months after its launch. For comparison, it took nine months for TikTok to reach 100 million users. Due to its massive success, many companies have been compelled to release their version of AI chatbots, such as AppleGPT. Taking a quick review of its features, ChatGPT has access only to information up to 2021. It has a free and paid version, which is available for everyone. Despite its huge success, ChatGPT has certain limitations, which have attracted the attention of many researchers, demanding a ban on its use. The AI tool is undoubtedly integrated into every facet of human life, expanding its daily prominence.

How does ChatGPT destroy the creativity of aspirants?

ChatGPT, undoubtedly, is an exhilarating technological innovation. It is making waves in various sectors, including health, marketing, and several industries; likewise, education is no exception. However, many students, especially CSS aspirants, have become overly dependent on this tool. Clearly, the rise of AI in learning has raised doubts about its unwanted repercussions on aspirants. It poses many potential challenges for aspirants, undermining their creative thinking skills. To begin with, ChatGPT generates outdated and vague data sources lacking novelty and originality. Aspirants need strong evidence and stats to support their arguments on various subjects. When people search for such evidence through ChatGPT, they get “Common Crawl” data readily available on other websites. Such data does not strongly support the stance of aspirants’ arguments, leading to shallow thesis statements. Moreover, students neither read books nor collect evidence from research articles and rely solely on these secondary evidence sources, which is often inaccurate. Therefore, it reduces their creativity, making them dependent on AI.

In addition, ChatGPT provides all the data in written form, limiting the memory retention skills of aspirants. Undoubtedly, writing develops many skills in a person, and aspirants need to write more and more to retain knowledge of multiple subjects in memory. However, ChatGPT eliminates the need to write anything, as aspirants adopt cognitive offloading by saving the content in soft form, reducing their memory retention skills. They become dependent on the reported data of ChatGPT and do not write things by themselves. As a result, the lack of writing habits makes aspirants non-creative and reduces their retention power.

Furthermore, ChatGPT generates answers to any question in a well-structured format and with profound knowledge. Aspirants become dependent on ChatGPT and copy the data that it provides. As a result, they lose interest in gaining knowledge through research and building something of their own. Undoubtedly, the study opens the doors of learning for aspirants, making them competitive. Also, their paper marks depend on the quality of knowledge they acquire, which remains unsatisfactory owing to the typical answers of ChatGPT. As a consequence, this leads to the destruction of their creativity.

Apart from these setbacks, ChatGPT does not give intriguing content for outlines or introductions of essays. On the other hand, aspirants mostly fear the essay paper, which is based on good practice and creative writing skills. These aspirants use ChatGPT to generate introductions for essays. Rather than writing their own essays, they cram the outlines and introductions generated through ChatGPT. Consequently, it destroys their self-confidence and reduces their analytical and logical skills to develop an argument. They become dependent on ChatGPT for cracking essay topics and preparing introductions. As a result, their writing skills become dull, destroying their creativity.

No lesser than others, ChatGPT formulates data in an organized way. Aspirants have started believing that ChatGPT surpasses their techniques and methods of arranging and organizing data. They stop using their cognitive skills to write and formulate a plan for assembling their gathered information. They become lazy and avoid using their own thinking, which reduces their innovative abilities. Moreover, they avoid any hard work that increases their problem-solving skills. As a result, they lose creativity, becoming highly dependent on AI.

Over and above, ChatGPT lacks self-learning capability and provides information based on pre-written responses. Evidently, the knowledge and data that ChatGPT generates are already available on the internet, and it does not give answers that have not yet been answered. Meanwhile, aspirants need to answer the questions critically and analytically. They mould the knowledge in various ways to present their arguments. When they use ChatGPT for their answers, they remain incomplete and lack rationality. Moreover, aspirants stop providing their own analysis on any question, which impairs their problem-solving skills.

To top it all, ChatGPT quickly responds to the Aspirants for their questions. Due to the fast response, aspirants do not bother to invest their time in gathering information from various resources, which can increase their knowledge. Aspirants become highly dependent on AI tools to save time, missing new knowledge and ideas. Therefore, ChatGPT’s fast response undermines the creative response of aspirants’ minds. 

How can aspirants enhance their creativity rather than destroy it by using ChatGPT?

    Nonetheless, the use of ChatGPT is not always harmful. It only depends on how the aspirants use it. ChatGPT can be an immensely supportive tool for aspirants in their research and covering the syllabus of their subjects only if it is used effectively. To overcome its negative aspects, students should use it as a secondary tool to get knowledge and information rather than as a replacement for their own intuition and judgement. In addition, they should not generate the context but use it to get feedback on their written essays, answers, and assignments. Aspirants should build their own context and take innovative and attractive ideas from AI Bot, leading to an effectual impression through organizing the data.  

Moreover, aspirants should use it in moderation. They should only get additional information through ChatGPT when thoroughly researching any topic. To increase their creativity despite using ChatGPT, aspirants should practice writing as much as they can and evaluate it through the AI Bot. Apart from that, aspirants should not rely on ChatGPT but use other sources to increase their creative thinking skills. Aspirants should search for the valuable offerings of AI tools, such as translations, grammar explanations, vocabulary practice, and elaboration of subject matter. Besides, aspirants should not settle for the data presented by algorithms but also add their own appropriate examples, details, and facts. Following these practical steps, aspirants can get the best of both worlds using ChatGPT.

Moreover, it generates quick responses, which causes aspirants to become lazy and refrain from using their own thinking and creativity. Nevertheless, by taking significant measures and using Chatbot moderately, aspirants can benefit from it, making them independent learners and critical thinkers. All in all, ChatGPT has become common among aspirants, which has the potential to improve their learning only if they utilize it adeptly.
