History of Computers by Sir Hamza

An electronic machine known as Computer had its initiation with the English mathematics professor of the nineteenth century, named Charles Babbage. Charles Babbage was the first person who invented the first computer, and it was built for military purposes.

Computer Generations

There are five generations within the history of the computers. Each of the generation is mentioned by the necessary development of technology that alters fundamentally operations of computers.

  1. First Generation (1940-1956)

The first generation of the computer identified by the technology of vacuum tubes. The computers of this generation utilized vacuum tubes as magnetic and circuitry drums for reminiscence or memory.

  • Second Generation (1956-1963)

The auxiliary of vacuum tubes by the transistors saw the arrival of second generation of the computers.

  • Third Generation (1964-1971)

In the third generation of the computer history, transistors were now being reduced and put on the semi-conductors or silicon chips. In this generation, integrated circuits were developed within the computers.

  • Fourth Generation (1972-2010)

The fourth-generation brought the development of microprocessors within the computers. In this generation revolution can be potted in only one word; Intel. The developers of microprocessors, in 1972 developed Intel which situated all the components of computer onto a single chip.

  • Fifth Generation (2010-Continue)

The fifth generation of the history of computer is associated with the development of artificial intelligence. Computers associated with artificial intelligence are still under the progress but some of these types of machinery initiating to emerge and be utilized like voice recognition.

Major inventions in history of Computer

There are several major inventions within the history of computer, and these major inventions are given below;

  • Difference Engine in 1821.
  • Analytical Engine in 1834.
  • Algorithms to calculate Bernoulli numbers in 1841-1842.
  • Initial Operating Programmable Computer or Z3 in 1941.
  • First Electronic Computer in 1942.
  • Colossus in 1943.
  • ENIAC in 1946.
  • First Trackball in 1946/1952.
  • SSEM in 1948.
  • Initial High-Level language of programming (Plankalkul) in 1049.
  • First Assembler in 1949.
  • First Personal Computer in 1950.
  • First Compiler in 1952.
  • First Autocode in 1952.
  • AN/FSQ by IBM or First actual graphics display computer in 1951.
  • FORTRAN in 1957.
  • First Mouse in 1964.
  • Programma 101 in 1965.
  • First Touchscreen in 1965.
  • Simula in 1967.
